My painting and print-making can be described as occupying middle-ground between figuration and abstraction and blending East and West. I often use elements such as poetic calligraphy in an effect which draws on my personal memories, experiences and Japanese culture.
However, throughout my Art Education in the UK, I was very aware of the need to open myself up to appropriate forms of modern western Art such as abstract impressionism.
I would say that my work is a kind of a representation of an aura of both spiritual and natural landscapes. I am particularly interested in the possibilities of the limited palette for expressing subtle colours and emotions.
